Several years ago I had the pleasure of being in charge of the restoration of a house designed in 1901 for Winslow Homer by John Calvin Stevens, Maine’s best known shingle style architect. Homer traded Stevens a painting for the design. The story about the house in the French edition of Elle Decoration focuses largely on a part of the current owner’s collection of painting and sculpture. One wonders what Homer would have thought of it.
